Sunday marked my first twenty-mile run of the year and it felt great to put it in the books. It was a windy afternoon with gust around 25 mph , so I disregarded any goals I had in mind for the pace of my run and simply focused on logging miles. In the end, I averaged an 8:20 pace. I used four GU energy gels. I tend to bonk around 60 minutes so I took my first gel 45 minutes into the run, followed by another every 45 minutes and managed to maintain a good level of energy. The only thing that went wrong was that I started to get a bit dehydrated toward the end. Next time I will be more diligent in finding water.
Three more weeks of intense training and I begin my taper. I have a long way to go but I’m healthy and eager for the challenge.
